Adult rape flagged

Referrals from the policeThe volume of referrals recorded has decreased by 2.8% from 1,470 in Q2 23/24 to 1,429 in Q3 23/24.
Receipts for a charging decisionThe volume of receipts – material received for a charging decision has remained largely static this quarter at 1,188 in Q3 23/24 compared to 1,189 in Q2 23/24.
Receipts for early adviceThe volume of receipts – material received for early advice has decreased this quarter by 21.7% from 554 in Q1 23/24 to 434 in Q2 23/24.
Pre-charge timelinessThe proportion of consultations completed within 28 days decreased to 45.9% in Q3 23/24 from 49.1% in Q2 23/24.

The mean number of days from police referring a case to the CPS and the CPS authorising a charge has increased to 129.55 days in Q3 23/24, 13.46 days more than the 116.09 days in Q2 23/24.

The median number of days from police referring a case to the CPS and the CPS authorising a charge was 5 days in Q3 23/24, down from 16 days in Q2 23/24.

The mean average timeliness of charging decisions with early advice is 430.30 days in Q3 23/24, 42.8 days more than the 387.49 days in Q2 23/24.

The mean average timeliness of charging decisions without early advice reduced to 72.1 in Q3 23/24, 1.58 days less than the 73.68 days in Q2 23/24.
Pending Response – Further InvestigationThe percentage of cases Pending Response – Further Investigation decreased from 57.1% in Q2 23/24 to 50.1% in Q3 23/24.

The volume of cases Pending Response – Further Investigation decreased 28.0% from 1,212 in Q2 23/24 to 873 in Q3 24/23.

Of those 873 cases, 568 relate to cases where early advice was provided and the case returned to the police.
ChargingThe proportion of suspects charged (out of all legal decisions) remained static, with a slight increase to 73.6% in Q3 23/24, 0.4 percentage points higher than the 73.2% in Q2 23/24.

The volume of suspects charged decreased by 4.3% from 668 in Q2 23/24 to 639 in Q3 23/24.
Completed prosecutionsCompleted prosecutions increased by 10% from 559 in Q2 23/24 to 615 in Q3 23/24.
Victim attritionNon-convictions due to victim attrition decreased by 0.7 percentage points from 19.9% in Q2 23/24 to 19.2% in Q3 23/24.

Volumes of non-convictions due to victim attrition increased from 52 in Q2 23/24 to 55 in Q3 23/24.
ConvictionsThe conviction rate remained the same this quarter at 53.3% in Q3 23/24.

Conviction volumes increased this quarter by 10.1%, from 298 in Q2 23/24 to 328 in Q3 23/24.

Domestic abuse flagged

Referrals from the policeThe volume of referrals recorded has increased by 1.4% from 17,982 in Q2 23/24 to 18,229 in Q3 23/24. 
Pre-charge timelinessThe mean number of days from police referring a case to the CPS and the CPS authorising a charge has increased by 1.82 days from 22.99 days in Q2 23/24, to 24.81 days in Q3 23/24.

The median number of days from police referring a case to the CPS and the CPS authorising a charge has remained constant at 1 day.

The proportion of consultations completed within 28 days decreased to 79.2% in Q3 23/24 from 79.7% in Q2 23/24.
ChargingThe proportion of suspects charged (out of all legal decisions) has decreased to 78.4% in Q3 23/24, 0.3 percentage points lower than Q2 23/24.

The volume of suspects charged increased by 1.3% from 12,139 in Q2 23/24 to 12,299 in Q3 23/24.
Completed prosecutionsCompleted prosecutions reduced by 1.5% from 12,731 in Q2 23/24 to 12,538 in Q3 23/24.
Victim attritionNon-convictions due to victim attrition increased by 0.8 percentage points to 48.4% in Q3 23/24 from 47.6% in Q2 23/24.

Volumes of non-convictions due to victim attrition also remained static, increasing by only 57 from 1,453 in Q2 23/24 to 1,510 in Q3 23/24.
ConvictionsThe conviction rate reduced by 0.9 percentage points to 75.1% in Q3 23/24 from 76% in Q2 23/24.

Conviction volumes have reduced by 2.7%, from 9,677 in Q2 23/24 to 9,415 in Q3 23/24.

Hate crime flagged

ChargingThe proportion of suspects charged (out of all legal decisions) has increased to 88% in Q3 23/24, 1.6 percentage point higher than the 86.4% in Q2 23/24.

The volume of suspects charged increased by 9.5% from 2,441 in Q2 23/24 to 2,673 in Q3 23/24.
Completed prosecutionsCompleted prosecutions increased by 2.5% from 3,184 in Q2 23/24 to 3,263 in Q3 23/24.
UpliftsThe proportion of convictions with an announced and recorded sentence uplift has increased this quarter to 78.1%, from 77.9% in Q2 23/24.
Victim attritionNon-convictions due to victim attrition increased by 1.4 percentage points from 21.2% in Q2 23/24 to 22.6% in Q3 23/24.

Volumes of non-convictions due to victim attrition remained largely static at 111 in Q3 23/24 from 105 in Q2 23/24.
ConvictionsThe conviction rate increased from 84.5% in Q2 23/24 to 85% in Q3 23/24.

Conviction volumes increased this quarter by 3.1%, from 2,689 in Q2 23/24 to 2,772 in Q3 23/24.
