About Fortalice

Fortalice was established in 1977 to provide emergency accommodation and support for women and children experiencing domestic abuse within their own homes.

The project has expanded over the years and now provides a diverse range of services for adults, families, children and young people within Refuge, the Outreach Support Centre and our new Children and Young People’s Hub. The ethos of Fortalice in relation to support, is to focus on self-help, promoting self-esteem, developing news skills, confidence and independence to enable victims to break free from abusive relationships and reduce the chance of re-victimisation, this moving on to a self-sustaining, independent life.

Job Description

We are looking to recruit a forward-thinking, passionate and dedicated person to join our established, experienced team of IRIS Advocate Educators. 

The role of the Advocate Educator will include providing Identification and Referral to Improve Safety (IRIS) training to GP surgeries to improve health professionals understanding of domestic abuse, with the aim of increasing the number of referrals made by GP surgeries for domestic abuse support.

You will also provide support and advocacy for medium risk individuals experiencing domestic abuse who have been referred by the participating GP surgeries. Working as part of a team you will be involved in planning, delivering, monitoring and evaluating the IRIS service across Bolton.

Key skills:

  • Experience of working within the domestic abuse and violence sector or a similar field
  • An understanding of child protection and the protection of adults at risk and a commitment to follow procedure
  • Experience of delivering training
  • Experience of project or service development
  • Experience of building and maintaining professional relationships and partnerships

As this is a community based project and the work will involve travelling to different venues, therefore it is essential to have a current valid driving licence and access to a vehicle with business insurance for work.
