The launch of a ground breaking new report; ‘Life or Death: Preventing Domestic Homicides and Suicides of Black and Minoritised women’, created through a partnership project between Imkaan and the Centre for Women’s Justice.
The research examines the obstacles faced by Black and minoritised women who lose their lives to domestic homicide and suicide in the context of domestic abuse, drawing on the frontline experience of Imkaan member organisations.
The report examines data from 44 case studies based on post-death investigations, including Domestic Homicide Reviews, investigations by the Independent Office of Police Conduct, and inquests. The women’s narratives demonstrate vividly how the barriers and challenges Black and minoritised women subject to domestic abuse routinely face in their lives, become the context for state failures contributing to their deaths.
