Due to increased funding opportunities, Fortalice has the opportunity to recruit an Assistant Project Worker to work collaboratively within our Outreach Adults team. The post involves providing support, information and guidance to victims at their first contact with the organisation.

Background Information

Fortalice was established in 1977 to provide emergency accommodation and support for women and children experiencing domestic abuse within their own homes.

The organisation has expanded over the past years and now provides a wide range of services for women, families, children and young people within both the Refuge and the Outreach Support Centre. The ethos of Fortalice in relation to support is to focus on self-help, promoting self-esteem, confidence and independence to enable women to break free from abusive relationships and reduce the chance of re-victimisation thus moving on to a self-sustaining, independent life.

Purpose of the role:

  • To work with victims of domestic abuse at their first point of contact to the organisation
  • Provide one to one support, advice and information for victims who may be experiencing domestic abuse and contact Fortalice either in person, by telephone or email
  • To undertake one to one advice and guidance sessions, completing risk assessments and safety planning to minimise risk
  • To undertake and review referrals for Refuge

Key skills:

  • Knowledge of domestic abuse and its impact on victims and their children
  • Experience of completing risk assessments and safety planning
  • Experience of managing crisis calls from clients in a vulnerable or distressed state
