Appeal – Karma Nirvana – Memorial for Abida Karim

Abida Karim is described by Ria the eldest of her seven children as the most beautiful person in the world.

“She always cooked our favourite food, always made sure the family home was clean, clothes were washed and pressed, took us on days out, motivated and supported us with whatever we did.”

Abida Karim was killed by her husband Sajid Pervez in the house they shared in Leeds, September 2020. Abida experienced domestic abuse throughout her 21-year marriage. Sajid pleaded guilty to murder and was sentenced to life in prison. At the time of Abida’s death, 7 children were left behind, with the youngest aged 6 years old.

On the day of Abida’s funeral, the children were notified only a few hours before the service. Denied the opportunity to say ‘goodbye’, the children have shared their wish to hold a memorial day to provide their mother with the send-off that she deserved.

Ria explains in the video why the children were unable to provide a memorial service for their mother.
