Background Information

Fortalice was established in 1977 to provide emergency accommodation and support for women and children experiencing domestic abuse within their own homes.

The organisation has expanded over the past years and now provides a wide range of services for women, families, children and young people within both the Refuge and the Outreach Support Centre. The ethos of Fortalice in relation to support is to focus on self-help, promoting self-esteem, confidence and independence to enable women to break free from abusive relationships and reduce the chance of re-victimisation thus moving on to a self-sustaining, independent life.

Children and Young People Project Worker (DOVE Project)

Part time post – 25 hours

Temporary post funded by Children In Need until 31st March 2023 with the possibility to extend subject to further funding

We are currently looking to recruit a motivated and innovative Children and Young People Project Worker to join our highly experienced team. The post will involve various duties to meet the needs of the organisation.

Purpose of the role:

DOVE is a mainly community-based service for children and young people who have been exposed to domestic abuse and violence (DAV) and provides a pathway to individual tailored support and interventions. The DOVE project is a ‘needs led’ service with appointments and services being offered to meet the demands of the individual child/young person. DOVE interventions take place in appropriate venues following completion of risk and needs assessments; at our Support Centre, school setting or community setting i.e., community centre, youth club etc. Individual initial interventions may be followed up with further one to one work or group work.

Key skills:

· Experience of direct work with children and young people who have suffered trauma and distress either through the effects of domestic abuse or relationship trauma

· Recent experience in the delivery of group work

· An excellent understanding of child development and experience of completing risk and needs assessments

· Experience of developing resources and strategies for children and young people with complex needs
