Event – Gill Hague – History and Memories of the Domestic Violence Movement

Come and join us online in this live streamed event to celebrate the history of the struggle against domestic violence since the 1960s in the UK and internationally. The event will launch the unique new book, ‘History and Memories of the Domestic Violence Movement: We’ve come further than you think ‘ by Gill Hague, and discuss the women’s movement against domestic abuse, made by a generation of redoubtable feminist activists.

Joining Gill in discussing this inspiring activist history, speakers will include: renowned researchers, Rebecca and Russell Dobash; Sarbjit Ganger, Director, Asian Women’s Resource Centre, Brent, London; and Nicola Harwin, former CEO of Women’s Aid in England. Their inputs will be followed by responses from survivor ambassador, Ann Devereux, VAWG worker specialising in work with Muslim women, Ruby Raja, and current Head of Women’s Aid National Training Centre, Jacqui Kilburn.

Hosted by the Domestic Violence/Abuse and Health Group (DVAHG) and the Centre for Gender and Violence Research (CGVR), University of Bristol, the event will be introduced by Marianne Hester, Director, CGVR.

The book and this event are dedicated to all survivors of domestic violence and to the courageous activists all over the world working to end the abuse of women.
